Inflammation happens when our immune system overreacts and releases too many white blood cells and other substances into the blood. What is inflammation? Is it good or bad? What are the signs and symptoms? We want to share our favorite anti-inflammatory fresh juices. These drinks are full of nutrients, antioxidants, and compounds that fight free radicals to reduce inflammation and boost the immune system.

What is inflammation?

Acute inflammation is usually short-lived and lasts for a few hours to a few days. Symptoms of acute inflammation include pain, redness, tenderness, or swelling at the site of infection or injury. As you can tell, acute inflammation is a protective response of the body that helps in healing from an infection or an injury. It is a good thing for the body, and we don’t want to change it.

What causes chronic inflammation?

  • Initially, chronic inflammation was only seen in autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and asthma.
  • But now, several lifestyle factors are linked to chronic inflammation.
  • One major factor is obesity and visceral fat, which is fat around the abdominal area.
  • Obesity and high levels of visceral fat trigger an inflammatory response in the body.
  • This high inflammation in obese people also makes them more susceptible to other chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes and acute conditions like atherosclerosis.
  • where there is deposition of fat in the arteries.
  • Other factors that cause high inflammation include drinking alcohol in excess.
  • smoking in excess.
  • too much stress.
  • a diet rich in saturated fats and trans fats.
  • consumption of too many processed foods.
  • sleep disorders.
  • and irregular sleep schedules.

How is chronic inflammation detected?

  • Unfortunately, there is no perfect test for detecting chronic inflammation.
  • Usually, doctors and medical professionals recommend a test when inflammation is associated with some other medical condition.
  • Two inexpensive and effective blood tests for detecting inflammation are the measurement of C-reactive protein and fibrinogen.
  • Usually, doctors treat inflammation with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or aspirin.
  • But there are anti-inflammatory measures and techniques that we can follow on a regular basis to reduce inflammation in the body naturally.

Many of the drinks have turmeric as a key ingredient, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and are featured in both warm teas and cool smoothies.
